AcoustiCore Acoustic Sandwich Panel System
High-performance tuneable acoustic panels for industrial noise control
At the heart of Ecoshields acoustic enclosures is the AcoustiCore sandwich panel, a high-performance, tuneable acoustic panel designed for superior noise reduction. Available in thicknesses from 50 mm to 200 mm, the AcoustiCore panel delivers excellent sound absorption and transmission loss, making it ideal for demanding industrial and commercial applications.
The standard 50 mm panel combines a mineral wool core with mass-loaded vinyl and steel facings to achieve both high absorption and effective sound reduction in a robust, durable construction.
Panel Construction
The standard AcoustiCore panel is a multi-layer sandwich system engineered for both acoustic performance and structural integrity.
Standard 50 mm panel makeup
| Layer | Specification |
|---|---|
| Rear facing | 0.8 mm solid steel sheet |
| Internal barrier | 6 kg/m² mass-loaded vinyl (MLV) |
| Core | 60 kg/m³ mineral wool |
| Front facing | 0.5 mm perforated steel (33% open area, 3 mm holes) |
| Joint system | Double-seal tongue and groove |
| Finish | Heat-cured polyester, off-white (custom RAL available) |
Standard panel dimensions and properties
- Cover width: 1000 mm
- Lengths: up to 5000 mm (custom up to 10 m)
- Nominal thickness: 50 mm
- Area density: approximately 16 to 17.3 kg/m²
- Custom options: 50 to 200 mm thickness, 60 to 120 kg/m³ core, stainless steel or aluminium facings, additional MLV/CFS barriers
Acoustic Performance
Independent laboratory testing confirms excellent absorption and sound reduction performance for the standard 50 mm AcoustiCore panel.
Sound absorption (AS ISO 354-2006)
- Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC): 0.85
- Weighted sound absorption coefficient αw: 0.80 according to AS ISO 11654-2002
Sound Reduction Index (AS 1191-2002)
- Weighted sound reduction index: Rw (C; Ctr) = 34 dB
- Rw + C = 33 dB
- Rw + Ctr = 31 dB
Note: Results relate to the tested specimens under laboratory conditions. Field performance depends on installation, flanking paths and system design.
Fire Performance
The AcoustiCore sandwich panel has been tested in accordance with AS 5637.1:2015 (Determination of fire hazard properties) using the full-scale room test method of AS ISO 9705-2003 (R2016).
- Group Number: Group 1
- SMOGRARC = 4.32 m²/s² × 1000
Applications and Use
The AcoustiCore panel system is designed for industrial noise control and acoustic enclosure applications, including:
- Acoustic welding bays and fabrication workshop enclosures
- Noise control barriers and screens for industrial plant
- Acoustic lining of sheds, buildings and process rooms
- Custom acoustic enclosures for machinery, generators and plant equipment
- Welding training facilities and confined-space simulation bays
- Fume extraction and clean-room adjacent acoustic partitions
Panels are typically installed with the perforated face toward the noise source to maximise absorption, while the solid rear face and mass barrier provide transmission loss. The tongue-and-groove joint system enables rapid, sealed assembly into walls, ceilings and freestanding enclosures. Custom thicknesses, core densities and facing materials allow the system to be tuned to specific noise spectra and structural requirements.
Design, Supply and Installation
Ecoshields provides end-to-end design, supply and installation of AcoustiCore-based systems, including compliance with relevant Australian standards for structural, acoustic and fire performance.
Test reports available on request. Performance data is based on independent laboratory testing of representative samples. Always verify suitability for specific project requirements with Ecoshields engineering.
